1912
Clark County voters approved the creation of a new public port district and elected the Port of Vancouver's first three-member commission.
1918
Voters supported a Port of Vancouver proposal for $185,000 to buy property and make improvements, as a preliminary to the G.M. Standifer Construction Co. building ships for the U.S. government, just below the Spokane, Portland, and Seattle Railway bridge.
1923
Standifer turned over its 52-acre shipyard to the Port, and new industries soon moved onto the property. Fred R. Brown was hired as the Port's first manager in 1923.
1936
Cargoes began arriving at Terminal 2, which had been financed by the port with matching money from the U.S. government.
1942
The port commission leased 30 acres east of the Interstate Bridge to the Kaiser Co. for a shipyard. This was part of the property needed by the Kaiser yard, which employed more than 38,000 workers at the peak in 1944.
1960
Pre-fabricated homes for Alaska were loaded and shipped from the port.
1971
At Washington State University, Port Commissioners Larsen, Neth, and Fauble, view the demonstration of the scale model of the Vancouver Lake flushing channel.
1983
A ceremony at Vancouver Lake celebrated the lake's $17 million rehabilitation. Port of Vancouver had been the lead agency in the effort, with financial support from the state and federal governments.
1995
Terminal 4, a 200-acre auto processing facility, was dedicated and established as Subaru's official port of entry in the United States. Since the first shipment, more than 280,000 Subaru automobiles have moved across the docks at Terminal 4, increasing vehicle imports by at least 15 percent each year.
2000
A new $10 million port entrance was added and joined up to the City's $34 million Mill Plain extension, providing new access to Interstate 5.
2002
Completion of the $10 million second phase of Terminal 2 redevelopment was completed fall of 2002, replacing another 800 feet of dock. The $17 million phase one was completed in 2000 which included an initial replacement of 600 feet of new dock and 40 acres of additional paved cargo area.
