Community
The Port of Vancouver shares the community’s concerns about the safe and environmentally sensitive movement of crude oil, regardless of where that oil is moving. We have taken proactive measures on emergency response coordination by calling together railroads, barge companies and emergency and spill response organizations to develop a comprehensive response system from Vancouver to Lewistown, Idaho, covering rail lines for the length of the Columbia-Snake River System. We have also supported federal legislators in their efforts to improve the safety of trains carrying crude oil and the strengthening of oil transportation regulations.
Prior to signing the lease with Tesoro-Savage, our Board of Commissioners participated in five workshops to receive information from experts on issues related to the movement of crude oil and listen to public input.
