RED LION SHOWCASES REMODEL PLANS AT QUAY
January 24, 2006 -- Port of Vancouver Commissioners
previewed a $1.7 million remodeling plan scheduled to begin next
month at the Red Lion Hotel at the Quay, as part of the boards
regular meeting today.
The Red Lion has operated successfully at the Quay for more
than 30 years and we are preparing to be there for at least the
next 25 years, said Shane Willcox, General Manager for the
Vancouver hotel which is located on the ports Terminal One,
just west of the Interstate 5 bridge.
The facelift is part of an ongoing $40 million investment by the
Red Lion Hotels Corporation, to freshen décor and modernize
technology in support of long-term brand growth for its Red Lion
properties. Revival of the Red Lion hotels nationwide, remodeling
upgrades, the addition of wireless internet for guests and a real-time,
on-line reservation system are part of a comprehensive corporate
growth plan to strengthen the hotel chain. The corporations
current lease with the Port of Vancouver was signed in 1983 and
extends until 2033.
Willcox showcased extensive plans for upgrading the Red Lion Hotel
at the Quay, including new carpeting, wall coverings, draperies,
lighting and furniture. The goal is to create a warm, comfortable,
roomier feel that will include a redesigned entry and stone accented
fireplace in the lobby, he said. Other improvements will include
new tile floors, granite countertop, and ergonomically-designed
chairs.
Improvements to the hotels 160 guest rooms and nearly 15,000
square feet of banquet and conference facilities have been tentatively
set for completion by late-April 2006 in time for the summer season.
However, Willcox said, remodel plans will work around requests for
use of the facility.
The hotels signature restaurant, the Pacific Grill and Chowder
House, will receive new upgrades but will retain style features
that reflect its history, Willcox said.
The port had its beginnings at Terminal One and the property
holds much sentiment for us, said Port of Vancouver Commission
President, Nancy Baker. Today, the Quay is one of the ports
top 3 employers, contributing much to the jobs and economy of this
community.
The Red Lion Hotels Corporation currently operates 66 hotels in
eleven states and in one Canadian Province, including the Red Lion
Hotel at the Quay and Salmon Creek Red Lion, north of Vancouver.
The Port of Vancouver, USA, created by Clark County taxpayers in
1912, has 42 industrial tenants involved in manufacturing, warehousing,
distribution, high technology and agricultural enterprises. Located
at the convenient hub of a marine, rail, highway and air cargo transportation
network, Port industrial facilities include 2.5 million square feet
of warehouse space. The Port has approximately 100 acres of industrial
property available for development in the near term, and an additional
500 acres planned for port expansion in the next decade.
