September 6, 2006 -- The Port of Vancouver,
USA invites the public to a scoping meeting conducted by the U.S.
Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) Tuesday, September 12, from 4
to 7 p.m. at the Port of Vancouvers Administrative Office,
3103 NW Lower River Road, Vancouver, Wash.
This public scoping meeting is part of the National
Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) scoping process for new maritime
and industrial development at Columbia Gateway (Parcel 3) and associated
environmental mitigation and habitat creation at Parcels 4 and 5,
north of the Flushing Channel. The primary purpose of the scoping
process is to identify issues and alternatives, raised by the public,
related to the ports proposed water-dependent and industrial
facilities.
As part of the NEPA requirements, the port is
preparing an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) to present to
the Corps. The new development at the port will generate economic
vitality and create new family-wage jobs for the community.
This scoping meeting will include informal discussion,
question and answer opportunities, and presentations (scheduled
for 5:30 p.m.) by the Corps, port staff, and the project team. Written
comments on this project may also be submitted and should be received
by September 25, 2006, to ensure consideration. The Corps will provide
notice to the public of additional opportunities for public input
during review periods for the draft and final EIS. Written comments
on the scope of the project can be sent by mail or e-mail to:
Katy Brooks, Community Relations Manager
