PORT OF VANCOUVER WELCOMES M/V DORADO LEADER
ON FIRST VISIT
February 6, 2007 -- Port of Vancouver, USA welcomed
the M/V Dorado Leader, captained by Rajesh Thamara from India, on
her first visit to Vancouver, Washington, February 5, 2007. The
M/V Dorado Leader is owned by FGL Marguerite Panama S.A., operated
by NYK Ship Management PTE Ltd., and represented locally by Inchcape
Shipping of Portland, Oregon.
Capt. Thamara and the 22-member crew were welcomed to Vancouver
by Gary Martinke, Inchcape Shipping Services; Ann Tetreault, Subaru
of America; Mike Munson, Marine Terminals Corp.; and Mike Schiller,
Operations Manager from the Port of Vancouver.
The M/V Dorado Leader is a pure car carrier
vessel built in Japan and launched in November 2006. It is 199.94
meters in length, with the capacity to carry 6,333 vehicles. The
crew for the vessel’s first visit to the Port of Vancouver,
USA, was from India, Bangladesh and the Philippines.
The M/V Dorado Leader discharged 980 Subaru automobiles from Japan
at Port of Vancouver’s Terminal 4, stevedored by Marine Terminals
Corporation. Port of Vancouver is the only West Coast port of entry
for Subaru imports and has received more than half a million units
since opening in 1995.
After leaving the Port of Vancouver, the vessel will sail to Port
Hueneme in Southern California before returning to Japan.
