HOLMBERG JOINS PORT OF VANCOUVER AS COMMUNICATIONS MANAGER

March 13, 2007 -- Nelson Holmberg has joined the Port of Vancouver’s Public Affairs team as Communications Manager.
Holmberg, who was on the staff of The Columbian for three years and for two at The Oregonian, was most recently senior account manager at Koopman Ostbo Marketing Communications in Portland.

“Nelson’s experience is welcome at the Port, and we’re happy to have found someone with such a passion for Vancouver and Clark County,” said Executive Director Larry Paulson. “We’re confident that Nelson will combine that pride with his experience and knowledge to produce excellent work for the Port and the community.”

A native of Vancouver, Holmberg graduated from Hudson’s Bay High School, Clark College and Washington State University (Pullman), where he earned a bachelor’s degree in communication and worked in the athletic media relations office for two years. He also served eight years in the United States Naval Reserve (Seabees) as a builder and as his unit’s public affairs liaison.

Holmberg’s 18-years of media and public relations experience includes positions with The Oregonian, The Columbian, Washington State University’s Athletic Media Relations Office, Pacific-10 Conference, Atlanta Glory and Portland Power professional women’s basketball teams, as well as Northwest Public Power Association and Koopman Ostbo. He also worked as a communications consultant in Vancouver for three years.
He is active in the community, having served on the boards of the Clark County Family YMCA, Clark College’s Penguin Athletic Club, and is currently a member of The Columbian’s Readers Advisory Committee.
