The Port of Vancouver USA is partnering with Project for Public Spaces (PPS) to study the possibility of a community-based public market at Terminal 1.

The study will examine how a downtown Vancouver waterfront market could look and feel, how it fits with our local culture, how it can harmonize with other similar programs and – if implemented at Terminal 1 – the keys to its success.

The port and PPS are conducting events Sept. 19 and 20 to gather information from key community stakeholders and potential vendors. Local retailers, artisans, farmers, and food and beverage firms interested in lending their insights to the study are invited to attend a vendor focus group meeting on Sept. 20 at Terminal 1. The meeting will include a presentation and an interactive question and answer session.

WHAT:                 Vendor focus group presentation and interactive Q&A
WHEN:                 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20
WHERE:               Terminal 1, 100 Columbia Street, Vancouver (former Red Lion hotel lobby)
RSVP:                   Email rsvp@portvanusa.com or call 360-693-3611 by Friday, Sept. 16

PPS plans to complete the study in October so the port can apply its findings to the Terminal 1 Concept Development Plan, which is scheduled for submittal to the City of Vancouver in November.

About Terminal 1
The Port of Vancouver USA is redeveloping a 10-acre site it owns on the Columbia River. Known as Terminal 1, the site is the port’s birthplace and home to its first warehouse, built in the 1920s through a partnership with the City of Vancouver. When fully developed, Terminal 1 could feature a public marketplace, new hotel, retail and commercial office space, and visitor amenities.
