Share your thoughts through community survey, open houses

VANCOUVER, Wash. – One of the most exciting and unique amenities planned for the Port of Vancouver USA’s Terminal 1 waterfront development is the public marketplace, which the port plans to build on a dock structure over the Columbia River.

The port is just beginning the planning process to design and fund the marketplace, and yesterday launched a survey so the community can comment on what they’d like to see included at Terminal 1 and in the marketplace.

The 22-question survey, which is available in English and Spanish, runs through April 20. It asks for feedback on potential vendors, events, outdoor elements, landscaping, arts and culture and more.

The port is also working with its Terminal 1 Advisory Committee, a group of local community and business representatives who are providing the port and consultants Graham Baba Architects and Greenworks with guidance and advice on the project. Committee members met for the first time yesterday to hear about early plans for the overall project and the public marketplace.

Public open houses will be held this spring and summer to discuss potential alternatives, and the port expects to unveil a preferred alternative this fall.

The first open house is scheduled for May 22, 4 to 7 p.m., at the Warehouse ’23 Event Space at Terminal 1. Public comment provided through open houses and the survey will be compiled and incorporated into the overall development plan.
