Auto imports arrive at the port

On August 4, 1972, commissioners executed a lease with Riviera Motors, the largest Volkswagen importing and wholesaling firm on the West Coast, bringing the auto import business to the port. In the fall of 1972, the first ship arrived, carrying Volkswagens, Porsches and Audis from Germany. Today, Subaru America offloads close to 60,000 automobiles annually at the Port of Vancouver.
