/ Progress at Terminal 1 Moves Waterfront Vision Forward

T1 061626

Work on the Terminal 1 dock reconstruction continues to progress – an effort that will produce a platform for a vibrant public market in the coming years. This spring, crews transitioned from in-water construction activities to work above the river, marking an important milestone for the project.

During the approved in-water work window designed to minimize impacts to migrating fish and other aquatic species, crews successfully installed 198 piles for the new dock.

Now, crews can be seen capping the piles and installing a temporary support system that ensures stability and alignment while concrete for the deck is placed. The original dock lasted for more than a century, and the port is prioritizing long-term durability of this new structure, too.

As the current phase wraps up, the next step will be cast-in-place concrete for the new deck. This work will connect the precast panels and form the future surface of the dock.

The next in-water work window begins in October where crews will put the finishing touches on the dock and install a protective fendering system which will protect the new dock structure during future vessel docking.

By carefully timing construction activities to protect river resources and aquatic habitat, the project reflects the port’s commitment to balancing redevelopment with environmental stewardship.

The port team shares the community’s excitement as the vision of a public market moves closer to reality.
